Children are building a climate resistant city

You’ve probably already noticed: our climate is changing! Extreme weather such as heat waves become more severe and more frequent. During summer, these heat waves can lead to higher temperatures in cities compared to rural areas. This is called the urban heat island effect. In short, between the concrete and the asphalt you feel the heat more, especially at night! High temperatures and heat stress can lead to health problems. But what would happen if we converted all the car parks into parks?

With the LEGO urban climate game, you are the architect of the future. Build your miniature city with LEGO, and with the help of artificial intelligence, you can immediately see the impact of buildings, greenspace and water on the temperature. Can you make your neighbourhood climate-resistant?

I Love Science Festival

With the support of Innoviris, we were able to significantly upgrade and expand our workshop for this edition of the I Love Science Festival. The 4 beautiful new LEGO temperature boxes attracted a lot of attention and participants. Many children were able to design their climate-resilient city in LEGO and immediately visualize the impact on temperature. Through the creative process of building and testing, children learn about the impact of land use on the temperature in their city....

The LEGO Urban Climate Game was presented for the first time at the I Love Science Festival. I Love Science Festival is organized annually by Innoviris and visit.Brussels. The 2023 edition attracted over 15000 visitors, of which an estimated 500 to 750 built a LEGO city and had it scanned in the temperature box.
